Enumclaw Hornets 15, Bainbridge Spartans 11

The Enumclaw Hornets finished their fifth week of competition with a 15-11 win over the Bainbridge Spartans at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center on Friday,

Senior Captain Bryce VanHoof went on a scoring frenzy, scoring his first goal on the Hornets' first possession, and adding four more in the opening quarter, to give Enumclaw a 5-1 advantage going into the second quarter.  The teams played evenly through most of the second quarter, scoring two each, when VanHoof scored two in the last minute of the half to give the Hornets a 9-3 halftime lead.

The Spartans outscored the home team in the third quarter, 3-1, to narrow the Hornet lead to four. The two teams traded goals in the final quarter, both scoring five, as the Hornets held on for the 15-11 win.

VanHoof set a record pace for Enumclaw, scoring 14; Captain Jack Pugh added one. For the Spartans, Jem Bullock scored five, Douglas Ortyn scored two, and Riker Haddon, Mathias VanPatten, Miles Hogger, and Eric Nibarger each scored one.

On defense, Jack Pugh led the Hornets with seven steals, VanHoof had four. Ethan Horan, Quinn Warner, and Brett Butler each grabbed two steals. Sophomore Jayson Bates and freshman Nathan March split the goalkeeping duties. Both keepers had two steals; Bates had seven saves and March had two.

The Hornets host Kentridge in a league game on Tuesday, and host a non-league contest with Emerald Ridge on Thursday, Both games are at 7:30.

Enumclaw is now 12-4 overall, and 6-1 in league play, with seven games remaining in the regular season. The Hornets have three remaining league games.
