Auburn Mountainview Beats Enumclaw 15-11

The East Division Champion Auburn Mountainview Lions beat the visiting Enumclaw Boys Water Polo Team, 15-11 on Tuesday, October 28.  The Lions claimed the East Division Championship with a 10-0 league record. The Hornets finish third in the Division with a 7-3 league record. Both teams advance to post-season play, representing the East Division in the Region I Championship on November 7 and 8 at Rogers High School in Puyallup, WA.

The Hornets took an early lead against the host Lions, with senior captains Bryce VanHoof and Jack Pugh each scoring a goal in the first three minutes, for a 2-0 Hornet advantage. The Lions tied it up on their next two possessions, with goals by senior Tyler Arnold and junior Owen Lempert. Pugh scored on a power play on Enumclaw's next possession, and VanHoof scored a minute later, for a 4-2 Hornet lead; Lion senior Jonah Kathlean scored with 1:05 left in the quarter, and Enumclaw held a slim 4-3 lead after seven minutes of play.

The scoring continued in the second quarter, with Auburn Mountainview outscoring Enumclaw 6-4, to take a 9-8 lead into halftime. Both teams' defenses tightened in the second half, and the teams played even for the seven minutes of the third quarter. Bo Nelson scored two for the Lions, and Pugh scored two for Enumclaw; the Lions held a 11-10 advantage going into the final period.

The Lions pulled away from the Hornets in the fourth quarter, outscoring Enumclaw 4-1, and closing the door with a 15-11 win.

Senior Captain Jack Pugh led the Hornet scoring with five goals; Captain Bryce VanHoof scored four. Junior Evan O'Neill and freshman Ethan Horan added one goal each. For the Lions,senior Jonah Kathlean scored five, Tyler Arnold and Truman Sulewski scored three each, and Bo Nelson and Owen Lempert added two apiece.

The Hornets finished league play 7-3, 15-6 overall. and take third place in the East Division. Enumclaw travels to Puyallup High School on Thursday for a 5:15 game against Emerald Ridge, and travels to Rogers High School next Thursday, November 6, for a 7:15 game against the Rogers Rams.

The Hornets and the Lions open post-season play in the Region I Championship at Rogers High School on Friday, November 7 against West Division teams.
