The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team began State Tournament play on Wednesday with a 20-4 loss to Gig Harbor. The Gig Harbor Tides were one of only three teams that beat the Hornets during the regular season.
The Hornet offense never got on track against Gig Harbor's defense, committing 25 turnovers while creating only 19 scoring opportunities. Scoring for Enumclaw in the loss were Lindsay Bowden, Liz Schmidt, Breanna Flaquinti, and Kelsey Sonneson, each with one goal.
The Hornets next game is at 3:30, against the host team Rogers Rams. Enumclaw beat Rogers twice during the regular season. A win against Rogers would set the Hornets up for two games on Saturday, and the possibility of placing between third place and sixth place at State. A loss on Friday would put the Hornets in Saturday's consolation game, where they could finish no higher than seventh at State. The Hornets best finish was fifth place, in 2007 and 2008.
