Hornets finish regular season with 15-5 record, advance to State

The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team finished their 2009 regular season with an 11-3 loss to the visiting Gig Harbor Tides on Thursday. The Hornets finished the season with a 15-5 overall record, and an 8-2 record in the East Division of the South Sound Girls Water Polo League. Enumclaw will begin State tournament play on Wednesday at 3:30 against Gig Harbor at Rogers High School in Puyallup.

Gig Harbor started fast in Thursday's game, scoring three goals in the first two and a half minutes, but the Hornet defense tightened, and Lindsay Bowden put Enumclaw on the board, scoring on a penalty shot with 3:21 left in the opening period; the Tides held a 3-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

The Tides scored three more goals in the second quarter, one on a penalty shot, and another after rebounding a blocked penalty shot, to secure a 6-2 advantage at the half. Tianna Hogan scored one minute into the third period, but Gig Harbor scored three more during the period, for a 9-3 lead entering the final period. In the final quarter, Gig Harbor cored two more, and held the Hornets scoreless, for the 11-3 final score.

Hornets scoring were Lindsay Bowden, with two goals, and Tianna Hogan with one. Goalkeeper Shaye Hogerhuis saved 17 goals; four field players also registered blocked shots, including Kelsey Sonneson, Erin Stucker, Tianna Hogan, and Kelsey Brazier.
