The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team traveled to Auburn for their final league game of the season, and returned home with a 15-8 victory and an 8-2 league record. The Hornets improved their overall record to 15-4.
The gritty Auburn team kept the game close for three quarters, but the Hornets scored seven, and held the Trojans to a single goal in the final period to secure the win.
Enumclaw's Tianna Hogan was first to score, with a goal 16 seconds into the game, But Auburn's Lauren Sleezer scored ten seconds later to tie the game. The two teams traded goals through the opening period until Hogan scored her third goal of the game with 20 seconds left in the quarter to take a 4-3 lead.
After a close second quarter, Sleezer tossed in her fourth goal of the game with 31 seconds in the second quarter to give Auburn a 7-6 advantage at halftime. The Hornets recovered the lead during the third quarter as Lindsay Bowden scored two goals, and Enumclaw held Auburn scoreless.
The Hornet offense went into high gear in the final quarter as Bowden scored four more and Erin Stucker scored three goals. Auburn's Sleezer scored one more with four seconds left in the game, for the final 15-8 score.
Enumclaw wil play their final regular season game on Thursday, when they host the Gig Harbor Tides in a 4:30 game at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center. The Hornets advance to the State championship tournament on Wednesday, May 13 at Rogers High School.
