Hornets Finish 1-1 Friday at Tournament

The Enumclaw Boys Water Polo Team finished Friday's play at the Emerald Ridge Tournament with one win and one loss, losing 9-7 to Shorewood, but beating Stadium 12-9 in the Hornets' second game of the day.  The Hornets open Saturday's play against Emerald Ridge at 10:00.

Against Shorewood the Hornets played close, tied 2-2 after one quarter of play, and leading 5-4 at halftime. The teams were tied 7-7 after three quarters of play, but Shorewood scored the only two goals in the final quarter to beat the Hornets 9-7.

Bryce VanHoof scored five in the loss, and Jack Pugh and Quinn Warner each scored one.  Goalkeeper Austin Kaehn had 14 saves.

In their second game of the day, Enumclaw led 3-1 after one period, and 5-2 at halftime. At the end of three quarters the Hornets led 9-5, and extended their lead to 10-5 in the first minute of the fourth quarter. The two teams traded goals during the final period, for a 12-7 Enumclaw lead with two minutes left. Stadium scored the final two goals, including their final goal on a power play with three seconds left for the 12-9 final score.

Against Stadium, Jack Pugh led the Hornets' scoring, with five goals. Bryce VanHoof scored four, and Brett Butler, and freshmen Nathan March and Kyle Morgan scored one each. Austin Kaehn had four steals and four saves in the goal.

The Hornets begin the second day of play on Saturday against the host Emerald Ridge Jaguars at 10:00. Enumclaw's second game will be at 2:50 or 3:40, depending on the early round results. If the Hornets win their fourth game, they'll play a fifth game at 5:20 or 6:10.

Enumclaw returns to league play next week, hosting Kentwood on Tuesday at 7:30 and Auburn Riverside on Thursday.
