Enumclaw Loses Season Opener to Puyallup

The Enumclaw High School Boys Water Polo Team lost their opening game of the regular season to a strong Puyallup Viking team, 14-8, on Thursday, September 11.

The Hornets scored first, on a Jack Pugh goal, 86 seconds into the game, but Puyallup tied it up a minute later on a penalty shot.  The Vikings held a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Puyallup scored three quick counter-attack goals in the first two minutes of the second period, but the Hornets scratched their way back, for a 7-4 Viking lead at halftime.

Enumclaw played the home team evenly in the third period, to go into the final quarter with a 9-7 deficit, but the Viking's deeper bench finished off the visiting Hornets in the final period, holding Enumclaw scoreless until senior Bryce VanHoof scored in the last second on a power play, for the final 14-8 score.

The Hornets open league play on Tuesday, September 16 against Auburn Riverside at the Auburn Pool at 7:00.
