Enumclaw's Girls Water Polo Team had their offense clicking on Friday afternoon, beating the Puyallup Vikings with an aggressive fast break offense, combined with an improved half-court game. The Hornets beat Puyallup 18-5 in an afternoon contest at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center.
Puyallup looked strong in the opening period, taking a 3-1 lead four minutes into the first quarter, but the Hornets fought back, with Kaitlyn Korsch scoring twice from the center, and Lindsay Bowden scoring from the point, to give Enumclaw a 4-3 lead at the end of the quarter.
The Hornets took charge in the second period, scoring five goals, to take a 9-4 lead into the halftime break, and held the Vikings scoreless in the third quarter to seal the victory.
Scoring for the Hornets were Bowden, with six goals, Korsch and Kelsey Brazier with three each, Breanna Flaquinti with two goals, and Liz Schmidt, Brooke Flaquinti, Erin Stucker, and Tianna Hogan with one goal each. Goalkeeper Shaye Hogerhuis tallied 21 saves.
The Hornets travel to Auburn on Tuesday for a 7:00 pm league game against the Auburn Trojans. On Wednesday Enumclaw hosts the non-league rival Rogers Rams, in a 3:15 contest at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center.
The Hornets now have a 9-2 record, and a 5-2 league record, to hold second place in the Eastern Division of the South Sound Girls Water Polo League.
