The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team beat the Auburn Trojans 16-5 on Tuesday, March 17. The Trojans took an early 2-1 lead after center Lauren Sleezer scored two goals in the first three minutes of the game, but the Hornets responded with a double-team defense at center, and an aggressive fast break offense.
Enumclaw seniors Kelsey Brazier and Liz Schmidt scored on consecutive fast break goals to put the Hornets ahead 3-2 with three minutes left in the opening quarter, and the Hornets never looked back.
Scoring for Enumclaw were Liz Schmidt with four goals, Kaitlyn Korsch and Erin Stucker with three goals each, Lindsay Bowden with two, and Amber Morris, Breanna and Brooke Flaquinti, and Kelsey Brazier with one goal each. Lauren Sleezer scored four and Shelby Maynard scored one for Auburn.
Goalkeeper Shaye Hogerhuis had 17 saves for Enumclaw; Lindsay Bowden and Erin Stucker each had five assists, Bowden tallied five steals, while Stucker and Morris each stole four.
The Hornets travel to Puyallup tomorrow, March 18 for a non-league match against the Puyallup Vikings at 7:30.
