Hornets Lose to Auburn Mountainview, Don't Advance to State Tournament

The Enumclaw Boys Water Polo Team lost to Auburn Mountainview in overtime on Thursday night at the Auburn Pool, ending the Hornets chances to advance to the State water polo tournament, held November 5-7 at Puyallup's Rogers High School.

Thursday's game was close, with the score tied on five separate occasions, including the 7-7 tie at the end of regulation.

Mountainview scored first, with a goal 17 seconds into the game, but the Hornets responded with a goal of their own, by Garrett Hall, on the next possession, to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams scored once more in the first quarter, for a 2-2 tie going in to the second period. Mountainview scored on a penalty shot midway through the second quarter, but Hall scored again on the next Enumclaw possession, to tie the game at 3-3 before halftime.

The Lions scored again early in the third quarter, but Travis Culp scored four minutes in to the quarter for a 4-4 tie, before Mountainview scored twice in two minutes, to take a 6-4 lead in to the final period. Enumclaw fought back, scoring three goals in the final period, while holding the Lions to one score, for a 7-7 tie at the end of regulation play. Both teams were scoreless in the first overtime period, but Mountainview scored 36 seconds in to the second overtime, and held Enumclaw scoreless, to secure the win.

Auburn Mountainview will advance to the State tournament as the fourth seed from the East Division.
