Enumclaw Beats Kentridge on Last-Second Goal

The Enumclaw High School Boys Water Polo Team beat the Kentridge Chargers 10-9 in a non-league home game on Tuesday, October 13.

The Enumclaw win came on a 21-yard goal by Hornet goalkeeper Josh Musick with two seconds left in the game. The contest was close throughout, with neither team holding better than a two point lead at any point in the game.

The physical Kentridge team came out strong early, scoring two goals in the first three minutes of the game, while holding Enumclaw scoreless. But the Hornet defense tightened, and goals by Garrett Hall and Bennon VanHoof tied the game at 2-2 two minutes later. The two teams traded scores until Kentridge scored with five seconds left in the opening period, to take a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.

Enumclaw's Travis Culp scored 16 seconds into the second quarter to tie the game at 4-4. Enumclaw and Kentridge traded goals through the rest of the game, until Kentridge took a 9-8 lead with three minutes left in the game.

The Hornets called time out after a Kentridge exclusion with 56 seconds left in the game, and scored on the power play with 47 seconds left. After stopping a Kentridge attempt, Hornet goalkeeper Musick scored from the length of the pool, for the 10-9 victory.

Scoring for Enumclaw were Logan Ross with three goals, Travis Culp, Garret Hall, and Bennon VanHoof with two goals each, and Musick with one. Musick also grabbed 13 saves and two steals, while Travis Culp had five steals, and Bennon VanHoof had four. Hall also earned three assists.
