Hornets Close Month Undefeated in League Play

The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team finished play for the month of March on Thursday, with an 18-5 win over Auburn Riverside, and an unblemished 6-0 record in league play.

After a Saturday non-league loss to defending State Champion Gig Harbor, the Hornets bounced back to their winning ways on Monday with a 12-4 win over league opponent Kentridge, at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center.

Against the Chargers, the Hornets rattled off four goals in the first two and a half minutes. Kentridge added two in the opening quarter, but Enumclaw held them scoreless in the second period, and held a 7-2 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Grace Rich, Anna Davenport, Hannah Simurdak, and Lindsay Harms each scored before Kentridge added their third goal of the game, and Kate Meneghini scored with three seconds remaining in the quarter. The Hornets led 11-3 going into the final period; each team scored pone in the final stanza.

Eight Hornets scored in the win. Anna Davenport, Emilie Weyer, Hannah Simurdak, and Grace Rich scored two goals each. Grace Munnell, Grace Sales, Lindsay Harms, and Kate Meneghini each scored one.

For Kentridge, Haley Halversen scored two, and Rachel Bige and Michaela Childress each scored one.

Enumclaw continued winning on Thursday with an 18-5 win over league rival Auburn Riverside. The Hornets took control quickly, and used the opportunity to give their first-year players some varsity minutes; all 16 eligible Hornets got playing time, and nine scored. Rich scored five, and Davenport three. Simurdak, Weyer, and Munnell each scored two, and Brandi Meneghini, Kate Meneghini, Harms, and Morgan Hall scored one goal each.

All of the varsity squad has scored in the Hornets' short seven-game season, including Enumclaw's two goalkeepers - senior Lauren Pratt and sophomore Morgan Hall.

The Hornets have a break in league action until after Spring Break. Next week the Hornets host Puyallup on Thursday before traveling to Puyallup's Rogers High School for the Emerald Ridge Invitational on April 8 and 9.
