Garage Sale & Clothing Drive Saturday

The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team will host a Garage Sale & Clothing Drive on Saturday, May 2, to raise funds for equipment and pool fees. The event will take place at Sunrise Elementary School, 899 244th Ave SE, Enumclaw, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The team will sell traditional garage sale items, and collect surplus clothing and household linens to be reworn, recycles, or repurposed.

Come support the Hornets and give your unwanted clothing and other items a second life.

Hornets Back in Action for Week Seven

After a late Spring Break last week, the Enumclaw Hornets return to competition this week, as the state enters the seventh week of the girls high school water polo season.

There are 27 games during the week before this week's competition concludes with the Auburn School District Tournament, held Friday and Saturday at the Auburn Pool.

The Hornet squad, while not playing in the Auburn Tournament, will play two games this week, traveling to Lakewood on Tuesday for a 7:00 game against Lakes, and hosting Gig Harbor on Thursday at 7:30. Both are non-league contests

Current Girls Water Polo Standings

Listed below are the current Washington State High School Girls Water Polo standings, as posted by the league on April 21. The teams still have three weeks of league play remaining.

The top four teams in each division at the end of the regular season will advance to a Regional Tournament. The Region I Tournament will pit the top four teams from the East Division against the top four teams from the West, at Puyallup's Rogers High School, on May 15th and 16th. The Region II Tournament will take place at the same time, at Curtis High School in University Place, where the North Division will face the South Division.

The top four teams from each Regional Tournament will then advance to the State Tournament, held May 21-23 at Curtis High School.

Washington State Girls Water Polo, Week Six

Washington State girls high school water polo continues with the sixth week of the regular season. The post-season opens May 15th and 16th at the Regional Tournaments, and concludes May 21st-23rd at the State Tournament.

There are 29 games scheduled this week; the Hornets have no games scheduled as they enjoy their Spring Break this week. The Hornets will return to competition next week, when they travel to Lakewood on Tuesday, April 28 to face Lakes, and host defending State Champion Gig Harbor on Thursday, April 30.

Lady Hornets Battle for East Division Lead

The Enumclaw Hornets head into their Spring Break next week sharing a piece of the East Division lead, as a result of Tuesday's 14-7 win over Auburn Riverside.

The Hornets have a 6-1 league record, with three league games remaining. Enumclaw's lone league loss came three weeks earlier, in a 9-5 loss to that same Ravens squad.

As in their previous contest, the Hornets and Ravens were close for the first half. The two teams traded goals through most of the first period, with Enumclaw holding a 5-4 lead after seven minutes of play. Defense prevailed in the second quarter, as Enumclaw outscored the Ravens 2-1, to take a 7-5 lead into halftime.

The Hornet offense lit up the third quarter, as Enumclaw added six goals, taking a 13-7 advantage into the final frame. The Hornets added one, and held the Ravens scoreless in the final quarter, for the seven point win.

Anna Davenport led the Hornets' scoring, with four goals. Bailey Sexton and Hayley Sonneson scored three each, and Hannah Simurdak and Grace Sales added two each. For Auburn Riverside, Charissa Dorn scored four, Mollie Ridge scored two, and Julia Zanotelli scored one.

Enumclaw has three league contests remaining – against Auburn, Auburn Mountainview, and Tahoma. If the Hornets and Ravens remain tied at the end of regular season play. Enumclaw would win the tiebreaker, having beaten Auburn Riverside by more goals than they lost to them in their earlier game.

All the available Hornets played, and seven scored on Thursday when Enumclaw beat the visiting Emerald Ridge Jaguars 15-6 in a non-league game to wrap up the Hornets' competition before Spring Break. Bailey Sexton led all scorers with four goals, Sonneson and Davenport scored three each, and Brandi Meneghini scored two goals. Lindsay Harms, Grace Munnell, and Simurdak scored one goal apiece. Rochell Knouff, Aspen Sellers, and Breann Hite each scored two goals for Emerald Ridge.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Tuesday, April 28, when they return to Lakewood to face the Lakes Lancers.

Post Season Tournaments Taking Shape

As the girls water polo season passes the midway mark, divisional standings are beginning to take shape, and teams and fans are looking to the post season.

This year, Washington State Water Polo has adopted a Regional Tournament format, instead of the previous Wild Card format. The top four teams in each division will qualify for play in a Regional Tournament, held on May 15th and 16th.

The Region I Tournament will include teams from the East and West Divsions, and will take place at Rogers High School in Puyallup. The Region II Tournament will be played at Curtis High School, in University Place, and will include teams from North and South Divisions.

The top four teams from each Regional Tournament will then advance to the State Tournament, held May 21-23 at Curtis High School.

Enumclaw Water Polo will post divisional standings as they become available, during the two weeks prior to the Regional Tournaments, starting around May 1st.

Hornets 4-3 in Non-League Action This Week

The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team finished a busy week of non-league action on Sunday, with two games at the Lakes Invitational Tournament. The Hornets played seven games in five days, wrapping up the week with five games at the two-day tournament.

The Hornets opened the week's competition hosting Rogers High School on Wednesday at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center. Nine Hornets scored, as Enumclaw beat the Rams 13-3. Anna Davenport led all scorers with three goals. Bailey Sexton and Grace Munnell scored two each, and Madi Woodall, Hayley Sonneson, Hannah Simurdak, Grace Sales, Sierra Clough, and Lindsay Harms each scored a goal.

On Thursday the Lady Hornets traveled to Puyallup's South Hill to face the Emerald Ridge Jaguars, and returned with a 17-1 win over the Jags. Sexton scored five to lead the Hornets' scoring, and Sonneson and Davenport each scored three. Clough added two, and Emilie Weyer, Grace Rich, Munnell, and Harms scored one apiece.

Enumclaw traveled to Lakewood on Saturday and Sunday, and opened the tournament with stiff competition from the Narrows Water Polo Club, losing 14-2. Sonneson and Sexton scored in the loss.

The girls rebounded in their second game, with a 12-5 win over the host Lakes Lancers. Sexton scored four, and Sonneson scored three in the game.  Anna Davenport scored two, and Clough, Simurdak, and Harms each added one.

The Hornets wrapped up Saturday's play with a 13-4 loss to a tough Newport team. Sonneson and Davenport each scored two for Enumclaw.

The team returned to Lakewood Sunday morning to face the girls from Chehalem, OR, and lost 13-3. Weyer scored two, and Rich scored one for the Hornets. Enumclaw concluded their week with a 9-5 win over Mercer Island; Sexton scored four, and Sonneson, Davenport, Sales, Clough, and Munnell each scored a goal.

Finishing 4-3 for the week, the Hornets are now 9-5 overall. Enumclaw has a 5-1 league record, and is in second place in the East Division. The Hornets host division-leading Auburn Riverside at the Enumclaw Pool on Tuesday, at 7:30, before hosting Emerald Ridge in a non-league contest on Thursday at 7:30.

Girls high school water polo continues this week as the teams enter their fifth week of regular season competition.

Twenty games are scheduled through the week; some area schools aren't competing this week due to Spring Break. Week Four of Washington State HS Water Polo

Girls high school water polo enters their fourth week of competition this week in Washington State, with 16 games during the week, and two tournaments in Pierce County to wrap up the week's contests. The Emerald Ridge Jaguars will host a tournament on Friday and Saturday at Puyallup's Rogers High School on Friday and Saturday, and Lakes High School will host a tournament at their pool in Lakewood on Saturday and Sunday. Both tournaments' tentative schedules are posted below.

The Hornets will compete in the Lakes Tournament, facing defending State Champion Gig Harbor at 8:00 Saturday morning, and the host Lakes Lancers later that morning, at 11:00. On Saturday evening, the Hornets will play Newport, at 6:00, and wrap up group play Sunday morning at 11:00 against Chehalem, OR. Enumclaw will play a fifth game Sunday afternoon; game time will be determined by the Hornets' record in group play.

Enumclaw Wins Two More League Games

Enumclaw High School's Girls Water Polo Team continued their winning ways this week, picking up two more league wins, to improve their league record to 5-1, and their overall record to 5-2.

On Tuesday, the Hornets traveled to Auburn to face league rival Auburn Mountainview, and came home with a 17-6 win over the Lions. Fueled by Anna Davenport's six steals in the opening quarter, the Hornets shot off to a 6-0 lead in the first seven minutes. Eight Hornets scored in the win. led by Davenport's four goals. Sierra Clough scored three, Hannah Simurdak, Bailey Sexton, Brandi Meneghini, and Grace Sales each scored two goals, and Hayley Sonneson and Lindsay Harms added one apiece.

Julie Howe scored five, and Natalie Hayes scored one for the Lions.

Wednesday the Lady Hornets hosted Kentridge for their sixth league game of the short season, and beat the visitors 18-3. Ten Hornets scored, led by Sexton, with four goals. Also scoring for Enumclaw were Grace Munnell, with three goals, and Sonneson, Simurdak, and Davenport, with two each. Grace Rich, Harms, Sales, Meneghini, and goalkeeper Lauren Pratt each scored a goal.

Kentridge's Emily Halverson, Christine Sizemore, and Lauren Cox each scored a goal.

Enumclaw is now 5-1 in league play, and takes a break from league competition for the next week, as they host Rogers next Wednesday, and visit Emerald Ridge on Thursday, before traveling to Lakewood on April 11 and 12 for the Lakes Invitational, where the Hornets will face some strong non-league competition, including defending State Champion Gig Harbor, Chehalem, OR, Lakes, and Newport. The Hornets return to league play a week from Tuesday, when they host Auburn Riverside on Tuesday, April 14 at 7:30.
