Hornets 4-3 in Non-League Action This Week

The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team finished a busy week of non-league action on Sunday, with two games at the Lakes Invitational Tournament. The Hornets played seven games in five days, wrapping up the week with five games at the two-day tournament.

The Hornets opened the week's competition hosting Rogers High School on Wednesday at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center. Nine Hornets scored, as Enumclaw beat the Rams 13-3. Anna Davenport led all scorers with three goals. Bailey Sexton and Grace Munnell scored two each, and Madi Woodall, Hayley Sonneson, Hannah Simurdak, Grace Sales, Sierra Clough, and Lindsay Harms each scored a goal.

On Thursday the Lady Hornets traveled to Puyallup's South Hill to face the Emerald Ridge Jaguars, and returned with a 17-1 win over the Jags. Sexton scored five to lead the Hornets' scoring, and Sonneson and Davenport each scored three. Clough added two, and Emilie Weyer, Grace Rich, Munnell, and Harms scored one apiece.

Enumclaw traveled to Lakewood on Saturday and Sunday, and opened the tournament with stiff competition from the Narrows Water Polo Club, losing 14-2. Sonneson and Sexton scored in the loss.

The girls rebounded in their second game, with a 12-5 win over the host Lakes Lancers. Sexton scored four, and Sonneson scored three in the game.  Anna Davenport scored two, and Clough, Simurdak, and Harms each added one.

The Hornets wrapped up Saturday's play with a 13-4 loss to a tough Newport team. Sonneson and Davenport each scored two for Enumclaw.

The team returned to Lakewood Sunday morning to face the girls from Chehalem, OR, and lost 13-3. Weyer scored two, and Rich scored one for the Hornets. Enumclaw concluded their week with a 9-5 win over Mercer Island; Sexton scored four, and Sonneson, Davenport, Sales, Clough, and Munnell each scored a goal.

Finishing 4-3 for the week, the Hornets are now 9-5 overall. Enumclaw has a 5-1 league record, and is in second place in the East Division. The Hornets host division-leading Auburn Riverside at the Enumclaw Pool on Tuesday, at 7:30, before hosting Emerald Ridge in a non-league contest on Thursday at 7:30.
