Hornets Finish League Play With 12-5 Win Over Kentridge

The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team finished league play on Friday with a 12-5 win over Kentridge at the Covington Aquatic Center.  The Hornets finish with a 7-3 league record, and currently are 10-9 overall.  Enumclaw hosts Puyallup for both teams' final game of the regular season on Wednesday, May 8, at 7:30.

In Friday's game, the Hornets scored on their first three possessions – Hayley Sonneson scored on a power play 30 seconds into the game, Anna Davenport scored on the next possession 32 seconds later, and Bella Davenport scored on the Hornets' third possession 42 seconds later.  Brandi Meneghini added a fourth Hornet goal on another power play with 2:56 left in the period, to give Enumclaw a 4-1 lead after the first quarter.

The Hornets kept scoring in the second quarter, with Bella Davenport scoring three more, and Bailey Sexton, Kate Braun, and Sierra Clough each scoring one.  Enumclaw led 10-1 at halftime.

Bella Davenport and Clough each scored again in the third, and Kentridge added two goals by Summer Rosengren, and one by Lyndsey Greene, giving Enumclaw a 12-4 advantage going into the final period.

Kentridge's Briana Johnson scored the lone goal in the final quarter, for the 12-5 final score.

Seven Hornets scored in the win, led by Bella Davenport's five goals.  Freshman Sierra Clough scored two, and Bailey Sexton, Hayley Sonneson, and freshmen Anna Davenport, Kate Braun, and Brandi Meneghini scored one apiece.

Freshmen Lauren Pratt and Brandi Menghini split time in the goal. Pratt had seven saves in two quarters of play; Menghini had eight saves in her two quarters in the cage.

The Hornets have qualified for the State tournament for the eighth consecutive year.  State tournament play begins on Wednesday, May 15 at Rogers High School in Puyallup, and Lakes High School in Lakewood.
