Enumclaw Win Improves League Record to 2-1

The EHS Boys Water Polo Team beat a strong Auburn Mountainview squad on Tuesday, September 21, at the Auburn pool, to improve the Hornets league record to 2-1.

The Hornets got off to a fast 2-0 lead against the Lions, on goals by sophomore Bennon VanHoof, and senior Garrett Hall in the first two minutes of the game. But Mountainview came back to tie the game after a Hall exclusion foul, and a penalty shot by Hunter Arnold. The Lions took a 3-2 lead on a goal with three second left in the opening period.

Mountainview then went on to score on their first possession of the second quarter, for a 4-2 advantage. The Hornet offense took charge for the rest of the period, scoring five unanswered goals, before Mountainview added one more with 14 seconds left in the half. Enumclaw held a 7-5 lead at halftime.

The teams played even through the third period, each adding three goals, for a Hornet 10-8 advantage at the end of the third quarter. In the final period the Hornets held Moutaiview scoreless, and added two goals from VanHoof, and one from Hall, for the 13-8 final score.

High scorer for Enumclaw was VanHoof, with seven goals. Also scoring for the Hornets were Hall, with three goals, Thomas Petersen with two, and Travis Culp with one.

The Hornets face Mountainview again on Friday, in a non-league game at the Auburn School District Water Polo Tournament. Game time against the Lions is 3:45, the Hornets then face Emerald Ridge at 6:00 Friday.

The win improvs the Hornets' league record to 2-1, and the season record to 3-2.
