The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team improved their league record to 3-0 with wins over Auburn Riverside and Kentridge during their second week of competition.
On Tuesday the Hornets got off to a fast start against the visiting Auburn Riverside Ravens, with two goals by Bailey Sexton, and one by Hayley Sonneson in the first period, for a 3-0 lead after the first seven minutes. The Hornets added two more early in the second before the Ravens got on the scoreboard, giving the Hornets a 5-2 advantage at halftime. Enumclaw outscored the Ravens 8-3 in the second half, for a 13-5 final score.
Hayley Sonneson and Bailey Sexton led all scorers, with five goals each. Megan Lesmeister scored two and Anna Davenport scored one.
The Hornets traveled to Lindbergh High School on Thursday to face Kentridge, and came home with a 22-8 win. Enumclaw took a 6-2 lead after the first quarter, and increased it to 11-4 at halftime. Anna Davenport scored four in the third quarter, as the Hornets increased their lead to 19-6.
Bailey Sexton led the Hornets with seven goals, and Davenport scored six. Megan Lesmeister scored three, Hayley Sonneson and Grace Sales each scored two, and Hannah Smurdak and Lauren Pratt scored one each.
Three Hornets shared time in the goal – Megan Lesmeister, Hayley Sonneson, and Lauren Pratt – and gathered 13 saves between the three.
The Hornets are 3-0 in league play, 3-1 overall, and host Peninsula on Tuesday, and defending League Champion Auburn Mountainview on Thursday.

Hornets Finish Opening Week of Play 1-1
The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team finished their opening week of the 2014 season with a 19-4 league win over Auburn, and a 4-7 non-league loss to Puyallup.
On Wednesday the Hornets traveled to Puyallup to face the Vikings. Puyallup charged out to a 4-0 lead before the Hornets got on the board with an Anna Davenport goal in the second quarter; Enumclaw trailed 5-1 at halftime. Enumclaw held the Vikings scoreless in the third period, and added goals by Hayley Sonneson and Bailey Sexton, to trail 5-3 going into the final period. Sonneson added another early in the fourth quarter, to bring the Hornets within one, but the Viking defense shut down the Hornets to hang on for the win.
On Thursday the Auburn Trojans came to town, for the Hornets first league game of the season. Enumclaw got off to an 8-0 lead in the first period, and never looked back. All eligible Hornets scored in the win, led by Hayley Sonneson and Brandi Meneghini, with four goals each. Bailey Sexton added three, and Grace Sales scored two. Anna Davenport, Madi Woodall, Lauren Pratt, Megan Wolgamot, Sierra Clough, and Hannah Smurdak each scored one.
The Hornets host Auburn Riverside next Tuesday, March 25, and travel to Lindbergh High School on Thursday, March 27 to face Kentridge.

Hornets Make Schedule Changes
The EHS Girls Water Polo Team has made some recent schedule changes.
Tuesday's game at Auburn Mountainview has been postponed to Saturday, April 26, to accommodate Enumclaw High School's National Honor Society induction; the Hornets' March 28 game against Sumner was moved to Monday, April 21 to allow Sumner to participate in the Emerald Ridge tournament.

Hornets Open Season at Jamboree
The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team opened their
2014 season with two losses and a win at the Curtis Jamboree on Saturday, March
15.
The Hornets lost to defending State Champion Curtis, 11-3,
in the opening game of the jamboree, and lost to Wilson, 9-6, in the Hornets’
second game. The Hornets beat Bellevue, 6-0, in Enumclaw’s last game of the
jamboree; backup goalkeeper Lauren Pratt registered the shutout.

Coaches Bob Averill and Ken DeMan are returning for their
tenth year coaching the EHS Girls Water Polo Team. Joining Averill and DeMan is Tia Hellman, a 2008 graduate of
EHS, and a recent CWU graduate, who played water polo at both schools.
The Hornets are led by captains Megan Lesmeister, Hayley
Sonneson, and Bailey Sexton. Senior Megan Lesmeister has earned All League
honors each of the past three years, and All State honors for two of those
years. She also has competed in
USA Water Polo’s Junior Olympics.
Juniors Sonneson and Sexton both were named to All League teams as
sophomores.
Also returning for the Hornets are junior Madi Woodall, and
sophomores Anna Davenport, Lauren Pratt, Grace Sales, Brandi Meneghini, Sierra
Clough, and Megan Wolgamot. Joining the Hornets for their first year are sophomore
Hannah Smurdak and freshman Emilie Weyer.
The Hornets open their regular season on Wednesday, March 19
against the Puyallup Vikings at Puyallup High School. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
