Hornets Finish Opening Week of Play 1-1

The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team finished their opening week of the 2014 season with a 19-4 league win over Auburn, and a 4-7 non-league loss to Puyallup.

On Wednesday the Hornets traveled to Puyallup to face the Vikings. Puyallup charged out to a 4-0 lead before the Hornets got on the board with an Anna Davenport goal in the second quarter; Enumclaw trailed 5-1 at halftime.  Enumclaw held the Vikings scoreless in the third period, and added goals by Hayley Sonneson and Bailey Sexton, to trail 5-3 going into the final period.  Sonneson added another early in the fourth quarter, to bring the Hornets within one, but the Viking defense shut down the Hornets to hang on for the win.

On Thursday the Auburn Trojans came to town, for the Hornets first league game of the season.  Enumclaw got off to an 8-0 lead in the first period, and never looked back.  All eligible Hornets scored in the win, led by Hayley Sonneson and Brandi Meneghini, with four goals each.  Bailey Sexton added three, and Grace Sales scored two.  Anna Davenport, Madi Woodall, Lauren Pratt, Megan Wolgamot, Sierra Clough, and Hannah Smurdak each scored one.

The Hornets host Auburn Riverside next Tuesday, March 25, and travel to Lindbergh High School on Thursday, March 27 to face Kentridge.
