The Enumclaw High School Boys Water Polo Team opened league play this week, suffering losses in their first two games of the season.

On Tuesday, the Hornets dropped their home opener to Auburn Riverside 15-10. Enumclaw started slow, and the Ravens built a 5-0 lead until Hornet sophomore Kyle Morgan broke up the shutout on a counterattack goal in the second quarter.

Scoring for the Hornets in the loss were: Nathan March with five goals, Evan O'Neill with three, and Brett Butler and Morgan with one goal each. Three Hornet goalkeepers – Nathan March, Evan O'Neill, and Brett Butler – combined for 16 saves.

The Hornets traveled to Auburn on Thursday to face the Auburn Trojans, and returned home with a 10-8 loss. Against the Trojans, Enumclaw built a 2-0 lead in the first quarter before Auburn mounted a 5-0 rally in the second period, giving the Trojans a 6-2 lead at halftime.

Auburn outscored the Hornets 2-1 in the third period, but Enumclaw outscored the Trojans 5-2 in the final period; all five fourth quarter goals were scored by Hornet senior Evan O'Neill – including three in the final 1:06 – to limit the final deficit to two goals.

O'Neill finished with five goals. Sophomore March scored two, and freshman Ben Hauswirth scored his first career goal in the first goal of Thursday's game.

The Hornets return to Auburn this weekend for the Auburn School District Water Polo Tournament. Enumclaw opens tournament play on Friday against Auburn Mountainview, at 3:00, and faces Puyallup Friday at 4:20. Enumclaw returns Saturday for four more tournament games.
