Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team finished second at this weekend's Regional Tournament at Rogers High School to earn a berth at the State Tournament, held May 21-23 at Curtis High School, in University Place, WA.

The Hornets entered the Regional Tournament as the East Division Champion.

Enumclaw beat Peninsula in their opening game of the tournament on Friday, 15-5, to advance to Saturday's semi-final game against Wilson.

Wilson got a fast start in the semi-final, taking a 3-0 lead in the game's first two minutes. The Hornet defense tightened, and Enumclaw trailed 4-1 after the first quarter, and 5-3 at halftime. In the third frame, Enumclaw outscored the Rams 3-1, for a 6-6 tie going into the game's final period, and the Hornets scored five goals in the final quarter for an 11-6 win.

The semi-final win advanced Enumclaw into the Regional Championship, and an automatic berth at next weekend's State Tournament. In the Regional Championship game, defending State Champion Gig Harbor subdued the Enumclaw squad 18-5.

State Tournament play for the Hornets opens next Thursday, when Enumclaw faces Bellevue, the third seed from Region II, at 6:30. All State Tournament games will take place at Curtis High School, 8425 40th St W, University Place, WA. All teams in the tournament will play one game on Thursday, one on Friday, and at least one game on Saturday.
