Hornets Finish Week 2-0 in League Play

The EHS Girls Water Polo Team finished this week 2-0 in league play before dropping a non-league game on Thursday to State Runner-Up Gig Harbor.

The Lady Hornets returned from Spring Break on Monday to face Sumner, and rallied for a 9-5 Enumclaw win. The Spartans scored first, after a five minute 0-0 deadlock, and maintained the lead well into the second quarter, but the Hornets scored four goals in the last three minutes of the first half, to take a 6-3 lead into halftime.  Enumclaw outscored Sumner 3-2 in the second half, for the 9-5 final score.  Bailey Sexton led all scorers with seven goals; Anna Davenport and Hayley Sonneson scored one each.

On Tuesday Enumclaw traveled to Auburn, and beat the Trojans 19-2.  Seven Hornets scored in the win, led by Anna Davenport's six goals. Bailey Sexton added four, Hannah Simurdak three, and Grace Sales and Sieraa Clough, two each.  Madi Woodall and Hayley Sonneson scored one each.

Thursday the Hornets faced Gig Harbor.  The short-handed Hornets borrowed Gig Harbor's starting goalie for the contest, officially rendering the game an Enumclaw forfeit.  But the teams played on, ending with an 18-4 Gig Harbor win.  Hayley Sonneson scored three in the Hornet loss. Bailey Sexton scored one.

The Hornets have four games next week, hosting Rogers on Tuesday at 7:30, traveling to Auburn Mountainview on Wednesday for a 3:30 game, and Auburn Riverside on Thursday at 7:30.  Enumclaw travels to Newport on Saturday for a 2:30 game.

Auburn Mountainview Game Re-Scheduled Again

The Enumclaw-Auburn Mountainview girls water polo game that had been re-scheduled to Saturday, April 26, has been re-scheduled to Wednesday, April 30.  The game is at the Auburn High School Pool, and will start at 3:30.

This is a game that could determine the East Division champion, so we would love to see a good Enumclaw crowd.

May 3rd Newport Game Time/Location Changed

Due to a schedule conflict with Newport's Head Coach, who is coaching a Rain City team at the Junior Olympics Qualifier, we have changed the time and location of our game against Newport. Instead of playing at 12:30 at home, we'll play at 2:30 at Newport. Newport's home pool is at the Newport Hills Swim and Tennis Club, 5464 119th Ave., SE, Bellevue, WA.

The team S'more Night will still take place after the game, starting at 6:00, at Coach Ken's house, More information to come.

Hornets 4-3 Going Into Spring Break

The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team finished their fourth week of play 1-1 to improve their overall record to 4-3; the Hornets are 3-1 in league play.

The Hornets lost to Stadium on Tuesday, 12-9, in a non-league contest; the Tigers are currently ranked third on the PNW Polo blog unofficial ranking.  Enumclaw is currently ranked eighth.

In Tuesday's game the two teams played even in rhe opening period, but Stadium outscored the Hornets 3-1 in the second period, and 4-2 in the third, for a 10-5 Tiger advantage entering the final quarter.  The Hornets rallied in the fourth quarter, but came up short, for the 12-9 Stadium win.

Hayley Sonneson led Enumclaw with three goals.  Megan Lesmeister, Bailey Sexton, and Anna Davenport scored two apiece.

On Thursday the Hornets outscored the visiting Bainbridge Spartans 6-0 in the opening quarter, and held Bainbridge scoreless until 2:20 left in the first half.  Enumclaw outscored the Spartans 6-3 in the second half, for a 17-4 Hornet win.

Bailey Sexton led all scorers in Thursday's game with six goals.  Sonneson and Lesmeister added five goals each, and Sierra Clough scored one. Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Prat had nine saves in three quarters of work.

Hornets Lose to Auburn Mountainview

The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team lost to Auburn Mountainview on Thursday to finish the third week of competition with a 3-1 league record, 3-2 overall.

The visiting Lions got started fast, with a 3-0 advantage in the game's first four minutes.  Hornet Hayley Sonneson broke the home team's scoring drought in the final 30 seconds of the opening period, for a 3-1 Lion lead after one period.

The Hornets outscored the Lions 2-1 in the second quarter, and Megan Lesmeister scored the tying goal early in the third for a 4-4 tie.  The Lions went on to outscore Enumclaw 5-2 in the remainder of the period, for a 9-6 Lion advantage going into the final period. The two teams limited each other to one goal apiece in the final quarter, for the 10-7 final score.

Senior Megan Lesmeister and junior Hayley Sonneson led the Hornets with two goals each.  Bailey Sexton, Anna Davenport, and Grace Sales scored one apiece.

The Hornets host Stadium next Tuesday and Bainbridge Island next Thursday; both are non-league games.
