Enumclaw Beats Wilson 12-10

The Enumclaw Boys Water Polo Team beat Wilson 12-10 in a Thursday night game in Tacoma.

The Hornets got off to a fast start when Will Copper scored in the first minute of play. Gabe Sales scored twice in the first quarter, and Bennon VanHoof and Thomas Petersen added one each, giving the visiting Hornets a 5-2 advantage at the end of the opening quarter.

Wilson fought back in the second period, scoring five to tie Enumclaw 7-7 at halftime. The Hornets took back the lead in the first minute of the third period on Gabe Sales' third goal of the game, and held a thin 10-9 lead after three quarters.

Both teams went scoreless through the first five minutes of the final quarter, but Thomas Petersen broke the scoring drought when he scored with 94 seconds left in the game. Wilson scored on a power play to narrow the Hornet lead to 11-10 with 34 seconds left in the game, but Will Cooper sealed the deal for Enumclaw, scoring with 19 seconds left in the game.

The Hornets are now 2-3 in league play, 5-7 overall.

The Enumclaw JV travel to Auburn for a JV tournament on Saturday. The Hornets face Curtis at 11:40, Bellevue at 1:40, and Mercer Island at 3:00.

The Hornet varsity continue league play next week, hosting Kentridge at 7:30 on Tuesday and Auburn Mountainview at 3:30 on Thursday.
