The Collegiate Water Polo Association named two Plateau area athletes to the Scholar-Athlete Team for the 2008-2009 academic year.
Elise Averill, a 2005 graduate from Enumclaw High School, and Sarah Henneford, a 2005 graduate from Sumner High School, were honored with the award by maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better throughout the year.
Averill and Henneford were captains on the Western Washington University women’s water polo team and finished their fourth year of play with the Viking Water Polo Team. Both played for their high school teams for four years and were high school team captains during their senior seasons.
Averill is the daughter of Bob Averill of Enumclaw, and Claudia Johns, of Kent, and graduated June 13 with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science, specializing in pre-physical therapy. Henneford is the daughter of Dennis and Kathy Henneford, of Sumner, and will graduate in 2010 with a degree in Environmental Science.
