Enumclaw Gets First League Win

The Enumclaw Girls Water Polo Team got their first league win of the 2011 season with a 19-7 victory over the Auburn Trojans on Thursday, March 17.

Auburn got on the scoreboard first, scoring their first goal 92 seconds into the game, but Enumclaw responded with an Allie Larrea goal with three minutes left in the period, and an Erin Stucker goal with 33 seconds left in the opening period.

Stucker added three fast break goals in the second quarter, and Allie Larrea and Ali Ballard each added a goal, to give the Hornets a 7-3 advantage at halftime.

In the third period, Annie Birklid scored two goals, and Stucker, Alina VanRuff, Kelsey Sonneson, and Hannah Kinniburgh each scored a goal, to give Enumclaw a 13-4 lead going into the final period.

The Hornets added six in the final period – two from Katie Larrea, and one each by Allie Larrea, Alexis Firlotte, Kinniburgh, and Stucker.

Nine players scored for Enumclaw in the win, including Stucker with six goals, Birklid with three, Kinniburgh and Allie and Katie Larrea with two goals each, and Ballard, Sonneson, VanRuff, and Firlotte with one score apiece.

The Hornets are now 1-1 in league play, and 1-2 overall. They face Auburn Riverside in a 7:30 contest on Tuesday, March 22 at the Auburn Pool.
