The Enumclaw High School Girls Water Polo Team beat Emerald Ridge 13-11 on Monday, April 12, to improve their season record to 4-1.
The game started slowly, with the first goal coming two and a half minutes into the game, on a fast break by junior Erin Stucker. The Hornet defense held the Jags scoreless through the opening period, to hold a 1-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Enumclaw's offense roared to life in the second quarter, adding seven goals, while limiting Emerald Ridge to a single goal, taking an 8-1 advantage at halftime.
Emerald Ridge rallied in the second half, scoring ten goals while the Hornets added another five, keeping the game close.
Senior captain Lindsay Bowden led the Hornets' scoring, with six goals. Junior Ali Ballard added four goals, Erin Stucker scored two, and Rachel Deonigi added one.
The Hornets host Auburn on Wednesday for a league contest, and travel to Gig Harbor for a game with Peninsula on Friday afternoon, before hosting the Gig Harbor Tides on Saturday at 12:30, as part of the Enumclaw Aquatic Center's April Pools Day event.
