The Enumclaw Girls Water Polo Team strengthened their hold on second place in the East Division with a 6-2 win over the visiting Auburn Riverside Ravens on Thursday. The Hornets improved their league record to 5-3 while delivering the Ravens their fourth league loss; the Hornets are 6-4 overall.
The game was a defensive struggle throughout, but especially in the first half. The lone first half goal was knocked in by Hornet freshman Lauren Pratt with 1:35 left in the first quarter. The Hornets clung to a 1-0 advantage until late in the third period when Hayley Sonneson and Anna Davenport each scored, to give Enumclaw a 3-0 lead with 1:57 left in the third period. Raven Kamlyn Swanson put Auburn Riverside on the board 18 second later to pull the Ravens within two.
The Hornets added goals by Pratt, Bella Davenport, and Sonneson early in the final period; Kari Swanson scored for Riverside with 1:29 remaining for the final 6-2 score.
Hayley Sonneson and Lauren Pratt scored two goals each for Enumclaw; Anna and Bella Davenport scored one apiece. Goalkeeper Megan Lesmeister pulled in 16 saves.
The Hornets host three-time defending State Champion Gig Harbor on Tuesday at 7:30.
