State Tournament Results – Day One

The Washington State Boys Water Polo Tournament wrapped up the first day of play at Puyallup's Rogers High School on Thursday, with the higher seed winning in three of the day's four games.

The lone upset was in the first game of the tournament, when the Rogers Rams, as third seed from the West Division, beat the second seed from the East Division, Auburn Riverside, 12-9 in overtime. In Thursday's second game, defending State Champion Curtis beat Auburn Mountainview 21-3. Curtis and Rogers will face off at 6:00 Friday in semi-final action.

The East Division's third seed faced West Division second seed Lakes at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, and Lakes advanced to the semi-finals by beating Auburn 21-4. This is Lakes' second year fielding a team, and their first trip to the State Tournament.

In the final game of the opening day, East Division Champion Wilson beat Emerald Ridge 17-7. Thursday's four winning teams advance to the semi-final games tomorrow (Friday) night. Winners from the two semi-final games will square off in the championship game at 5:30 on Saturday.

Friday's action will start at 3:30, when Auburn Riverside faces Auburn Mountainview, and be followed by the day's second game, at 4:45, with Auburn playing Emerald Ridge. In semi-final action, Rogers will face Curtis at 6:00, and Lakes will play Wilson at 7:15.

Saturday's first game is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. The final game, for the State Championship, is scheduled to be played at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
