Enumclaw Beats Peninsula 5-3, Improves League Record to 2-2

The Enumclaw Boys Water Polo Team beat the Peninsula Seahawks for the third time this season, to improve the Hornets' league record to 2-2. The win came at Enumclaw's home pool in a 4:30 contest on Tuesday, September 29.

In the defensive struggle, the Enumclaw squad held Peninsula's two-meter player scoreless with a crashing double-team, and limited point Chandler Clarke to one goal. Scoring for the Hornets were Garrett Hall, with two goals, and Travis Culp, Zack Petersen, and Bennon VanHoof with one goal each.

The Hornets continue league play on Thursday, hosting the Auburn Trojans in a 3:30 game at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center, and the Stadium Tigers at 12:30 on Saturday. Saturday's play continues with Enumclaw hosting Mark Morris in a 2:30 non-league contest.

Enumclaw Wraps Up Auburn Tournament with Wins over Puyallup & Peninsula

On Saturday, September 26, the Enumclaw High School Boys Water Polo Team wrapped up two days of play at the Auburn School District Water Polo Tournament with wins over teams from Puyallup High School and Gig Harbor's Peninsula High School.

Saturday morning the Hornets opened with a loss to the second-year team Lake Lancers, followed by a 8-2 loss to Auburn Riverside. Enumclaw's afternoon improved, though, with a 6-1 win over the Puyallup Vikings, and a 12-5 win over the Peninsula Seahawks.

Against Puyallup, Hornet Logan Ross scored three goals, while Travis Culp, Garrett Hall, and Bennon VanHoof scored one goal apiece. Hall, Zach Petersen, and goalkeeper Josh Musick tallied two assists each in the win.

In the weekend's final contest, against Peninsula, Bennon VanHoof scored five goals, Garrett Hall added four, and Petersen, Culp, and Will Cooper scored one goal each. Goalkeeper Musick had 13 saves, two assists, and two steals in the win. Also gathering steals against the Seahawks were Hall, with five; Petersen, with three;Ross, Cooper, and VanHoff with two steals each; and Culp with one.

Enumclaw hosts Peninsula on Tuesday in a league contest at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center. Game time is 4:30. The Hornets also have home games against Auburn on Thursday, and Stadium and Mark Morris on Saturday.

Hornets Winless in First Day of Tournament

The Enumclaw High School Boys Water Polo Team finished the first day of the 2009 Auburn School District Water Polo Tournament without a win, tying Auburn Mountainview 5-5, and falling to Auburn 7-2.

In Friday's opening game, against Auburn Mountainview, the Hornets fell behind 3-0 in the first half before Garrett Hall put Enumclaw on the board with a goal almost three minutes into the second quarter. Both teams scored once more in the final two minutes of the quarter before taking the halftime break with the Hornets down 4-2.

The teams went scoreless for over three minutes into the second half, when Enumclaw earned a power play on a Mountainview exclusion foul. After taking a timeout, the Hornets scored during their six-on-five opportunity with a goal by Bennon VanHoof to bring the Hornets within one. Zach Petersen tied the score at 4-4 with a goal with 33 seconds left in the third period.

Enumclaw went up 5-4 20 seconds in to the final quarter on a Travis Culp goal, but the Lions tied the score at five with 1:52 left in the game. Both teams missed on scoring opportunities in the final minute to settle for the 5-5 stalemate.

In the Hornets' second game, Enumclaw scored once in the first period, on a goal by Garrett Hall, and once in the second, by Zach Petersen, to take a 2-0 lead over the Auburn Trojans into the second half.

But the Trojans roared back, holding Enumclaw scoreless in the second half, while scoring seven goals of their own, for the final 7-2 score.

Saturday the Hornets will face teams from Lakes High School, Auburn Riverside, Puyallup, and Peninsula. Enumclaw resumes league action on Tuesday with a league game against Peninsula at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center at 4:30

Enumclaw Loses to Wilson 20-4

The Enumclaw Hornets lost to 2008 State Water Polo Runner-Up Wilson High School on Tuesday, September 22 at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center.

Wilson had six players score in the win, led by senior Zach Kaija's six goals, most resulting from an aggressive fast break. Hornets scoring in the game were Travis Culp, with two goals, and Garrett Hall and Shane Jackson with one goal each.

The Hornets resume play on Friday, in a two-day, five game tournament at Auburn High School. The Hornets open play on Friday against Auburn Mountainview, at 4:00, and play Auburn at 7:20. On Saturday the Hornets are scheduled to play Auburn Riverside at 9:40, Puyallup at 2:40, and Lakes at 6:50.

Enumclaw's next league game is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, against Peninsula, at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center at 4:30.

Hornets beat Peninsula 10-9

The Enumclaw High School Boys Water Polo Team earned their first league victory of the season with a 10-9 win over Peninsula on Friday night.

The Hornets scored first, on a goal by sophomore Logan Ross 12 seconds into the game. Enumclaw and Peninsula traded goals through the first half and mid-way into the third period, when Shane Jackson scored, to put Enumclaw ahead 5-4. The Hornets scored three unanswered goals to close out the third quarter with an 8-4 advantage.

Peninsula fought back in the final period. The two teams traded goals in the first minute of the final period, then went scoreless until Peninsula scored with 2:53 left to narrow the Hornet lead to 9-6. On their next possession the Seahawks scored again, trailing 9-7.

But Enumclaw scored with 1:20 left for a 10-7 lead; Peninsula scored twice in the last minute, but the Hornets held on for the 10-9 victory. Freshman Bennon VanHoof scored three goals in the win, while veterans Shane Jackson and Garrett Hall scored two each. Also scoring for the Hornets were Logan Ross, Travis Culp, and Zach Petersen, with one goal apiece.

Enumclaw now holds a 1-1 record in league play, and a 1-1 record for the season.

The Hornets host State Runner-Up Wilson High School on Tuesday, September 22, in a 4:30 league contest at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center. On Friday, September 25 Enumclaw travels to Auburn to compete in a two-day, five game tournament at the Auburn High School Pool.

Auburn Tournament Schedule Announced

The Boys Water Polo Tournament, hosted by the Auburn School District on September 25 and 26, has posted the tournament's schedule. All games will be held at the Auburn High School Pool.

Playing in the event will be teams from Auburn, Auburn Mountainview, Auburn Riverside, Enumclaw, Lakes, and Puyallup. The Hornets are scheduled to play two games on Friday, and three on Saturday.

On Friday the tournament begins with Enumclaw squaring off against Auburn Mountainview at 4:00. At 7:00, the Hornets will face Auburn High School. Saturday's play begins at 9:00, with the Hornets facing Auburn Riverside. Enumclaw is scheduled to play Puyallup at Noon on Saturday, and finish the tournament against Lakes at 4:00.

All games at the tournament count as non-league games.

Enumclaw Loses League Opener

The Enumclaw High School Boys Water Polo Team lost their opening game of the 2009 season on Tuesday, September 15. The Hornets suffered a 2-10 loss to a fast-breaking Auburn Riverside team in the 4:30 contest at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center.

The Ravens had taken an early 4-0 lead when Enumclaw freshman Bennon VanHoof scored the Hornets' first goal on a penalty shot with 1:40 left in the first period. Riverside scored five unanswered goals before senior Shane Jackson scored the Hornets' second goal midway through the third quarter. The Ravens managed one more goal in the third period, and both teams were held scoreless in the final quarter.

Junior goalkeeper Josh Musick gathered 13 saves, and Musick and Garret Hall tallied five steals each.

The Hornets next game is at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, at Peninsula High School, in Gig Harbor, WA. Enumclaw hosts Wilson High School next Tuesday, September 22, at 4:30 at the Enumclaw Aquatic Center.

Hornets Open League Play Tuesday, September 15

The Enumclaw High School Boys Water Polo Team will begin league competition on Tuesday, September 15, when the Auburn Riverside Ravens visit the Enumclaw Aquatic Center for a 4:30 contest against the Hornets.

The Hornets will host nine home games this season, including a double-header on Saturday, October 3, when the Hornets will host Stadium for a 12:30 varsity game, and Mark Morris at 2:30. The Hornets currently have 17 games scheduled for the season, and a two-day tournament at the Auburn High School Pool on September 25 and 26.

Enumclaw will face the following league opponents twice during the regular season – Auburn, Auburn Riverside, Auburn Mountainview, Peninsula, Stadium, and Wilson – and will play non-league games against Bellevue, Curtis, Mark Morris, Puyallup, and Rogers. The Hornets are also trying to re-schedule a game against Emerald Ridge that had been canceled due to pool conflicts.

The Washington State Boys Water Polo State Championship Tournament will take place at the Rogers High School Pool, in Puyallup, WA, on November 5-7.

Boy's Water Polo Jamboree at Tacoma's Wilson High School on Saturday, September 5th

The Enumclaw High School Boys Water Polo Team will begin 2009 play with a jamboree at Tacoma's Wilson High School on Saturday, September 5. Seven teams will take part in the jamboree, including Wilson, Auburn, Puyallup, Curtis, Lakes, Stadium, and Enumclaw.

The Hornets will play four shortened games of two seven-minute periods. The Enumclaw boys' first game is at 12:00, against Curtis High School. They will face Stadium at 2:00, Puyallup at 3:00, and will finish play at 4:30 against Lakes High School.

The team will meet at the Enumclaw Pool at 10:00 to coordinate travel to Wilson, and have a team meeting on deck at the Wilson pool at 11:15. The team will have a final team meeting on deck after their final game, prior to leaving Tacoma.
